Workshops

Theory and Tools
of the Harvard
Negotiation Project

Presented at the Harvard
Faculty Club, Cambridge

Have you ever thought about the connection between negotiating well and personal growth?

"I came seeking knowledge to improve negotiation, impose my terms, privilege my interests, all related to my world of economics and work. I leave with a supreme lesson. I go with powerful tools for personal growth. I learned how to negotiate in daily situations of business, family and friends, I learned to negotiate, first, with myself. In the future, I will be a great negotiator. Thank you so much!" Carlos Felipe Montero (Chile) San Felipe SA Construction, Gte. Administration and Finance.

Have you ever considered that we find ourselves in a moment that demands a different look on negotiation and relationships?

"A phenomenal experience from the start. What a mistaken concept of negotiation and relationships I had before taking this workshop. It was very enriching. The method: extraordinary, and the consultants, all with no exception of A1 quality, it was difficult to get bored. How to turn a difficult conversation in a productive conversation

As a consequence, you will get to know yourself substantially and other people as well, reaching, in this way, substantially easier a relationship, and, as a result, A LOT OF WELL BEING!!" Ing. Raúl Temesio

"It offers a tool for work and for life. Very useful for application in difficult conversations that we usually have with superiors, peers, subordinates, and in personal relations. Very good. I leave with many good things to apply in my life, personally and professionally. I leave learning how to listen better and to ask more. Thank you very much!!" Ricardo Señorano – Salesman

Did you know that there are methods and tools to approach and to manage difficult conversations?

"Practical course, dynamic and interactive. It met and surpassed my expectations. It gives you tools with examples from the daily life and makes it easy to understand how it can be placed in practice. Patricia Rodriguez.

More often than we would like, at home, at work or in the streets, we face situations that are complex to deal with. Asking for a raise, ending a relationship, firing an employee, facing a disrespectful behavior, apologizing, telling a neighbor that the constant barking of his dog is unbearable, may be examples of some difficult cases to deal with.

Difficult conversations are part of our lives and will always be a challenge. Some of them will be better to avoid in favor of a greater good; but others will not have another remedy if not facing them.

The model developed by Bruce Patton, Doug Stone and Sheila Heen (member of the Harvard Negotiation Project) and enriched by the contributions of the new behavioral sciences offers a practical and innovative structure designed to offer people and organizations new tools to develop their communication skills, so they can manage their most difficult conversations effectively and efficiently, thus turning them in productive conversations for all.

Negotiating with
yourself

Management of time. Discovery and negotiation with the hidden basis of a made up scarcity.
Do you seek practical tools to make changes in the way you manage your day to day?

"Simple, dynamic, useful, practical, fun. Simple not for being superficial but because you can notice great control over the subject. Oriented for action, for change… Pablo Etcheverry - General Manager, DIRECTV.

Do you think the way you manage your time obeys invisible causes of a made up scarcity?

"Perfectly structured course and very interesting that allows thought about how we do things identifying the causes and offering clarity and confidence to change what we want to change. Ignacio Labat – General Manager and Finance.

Isn’t it time to organize you head and take decisions that redefine the ways of your life?

"A journey to comprehend the levers that move and generate decisions related to your time. Allowed me to visualize actions that I can take and gave me incentive to recognize that I have to take a decision. Allowed me, also, to place myself on my teams’ and peers’ skin to understand my leadership, effective or not to them. Thank you! Excellent professionals. Mariana Machado – Customer Experience Manager.

Nowadays, it is not uncommon to hear sentences like: "time does not follow me", "It’s difficult to prioritize", "it is difficult for me to make decisions", "I can’t delegate", "I live postponing", "I have a number of matters that are not closed or pending", "frequently, I can’t accomplish all my commitments", "sometimes I feel guilty…"

Such manifestations express the difficulties people have to manage their time. The inappropriate management of time is, until today, a crucial factor on people’s and organizations’ lives. Frequently, the lack of a correct diagnosis allows the application of recipes destined to give, eventually, good solutions to a problem poorly proposed. The result of this is that the symptoms remain and the problem endures.

Know
yourself

"Know yourself" is an ancient sentence that was featured at the atrium of the temple of Apollos in Delphi.
Have you ever thought that a good negotiator is someone capable of knowing oneself well?

"The course gave me very rich result in the personal level. Very interesting subjects were dealt with and they made me think and review some aspects of my personality and of my actions. It leaves many interesting open doors that makes me want to follow the themes that were worked to improve my quality of life. Very good. Gimena Urrutia. Bantotal

Does it seem useful to know more about yourself before facing your next negotiation?

"Super interesting workshop, surprising. I recommend 100%. In the personal level, made me reflect a number of personal aspects. Moreover, also allowed me to think about the place other people occupy in my life and the place I occupy in different orders of life. I refer to the family and work circles, among others. The applications of these ideas will generate an improvement in quality of life for us and for those around us. Florencia Cabrera. De Larrobla & Asoc.

Have you ever considered that doors are opened from self-knowledge?

"The course was very interesting, mainly because it can be applied to life. It helped me to realize my attitudes and of the great changes that I can make myself. Thank you very much. Sheila Álvarez

Saints, wise men and women, as well as thinkers and philosophers of all times always have made reference to this sentence, and it names this CMI Interser workshop, to signify the first step to personal growth. To know oneself implies separation from subjectivity to see ourselves from some distance, as a painter does sometimes to observe how his artwork is turning out.

To know oneself allows us to realize the patterns of behavior we have – or that we been used to think and feel – are conditionings and schemes, they are "forms" acquired and then products of our circumstances. To know oneself opens us a door for better consciousness to understand, accept or decide to change, freeing from the past and reinventing us to become more of ourselves.

While reaching our goal, each step we take we have more freedom and more satisfaction to live with clarity of judgement, being ourselves crafters of our lives. This workshop was specially created to offer, through a new, integrative and humanistic focus, tools that will let you live a more complete here and now, be it personally, with your family or at work.

Benefits of the workshop:
  • Concede people’s psychological maturity and emotional and spiritual growth, knowing that an evolved person is an inexhaustible source of economic and social benefits.
  • Develop the ability of meta positioning, self-observation, inevitable path to continuous learning, of our (re)programming and therefore the key to success in the long run.

"First, you must be a good person and have good sense of yourself. Immediately after, all forces of the world become tools to your purposes" Abraham Maslow

Conducting
Efficient Meetings

The power of the simple: the key points that make a meeting productive.

At this very moment as you are reading these lines, millions of people around the world are busy participating in some kind of meeting.

Meetings to negotiate, inform, take decisions, determine plans, solve problems, approach situations. Meetings to meet others, exchange ideas, discuss matters, motivate teams, sell, buy or celebrate.

Of course meetings are a valuable channel and many times necessary for life of companies, governments, communities, etc. The truth is that these organizations invest a very important portion of their budgets in meetings. It is common for a high percentage of individuals to manifest their complaints about meetings. Inconclusive, inappropriate, confusing, unproductive… These are some of the considerations that people make about meetings they participate. As a result, they end up perceived as a waste of important energy and money, all which translates into considerable frustration.

To have a productive meeting it is not enough just to call it. It is necessary for the caller to define a serious of key points to make the process efficient and its results concrete.

The participant will count with models and tools to:
